Where and When To Fish This FlySteelhead Fly Patterns are used in every area of the world where Steelhead are found. These areas include the West Coast of the US, BC Canada, and the Great Lakes. These Patterns are both Wet and Dry. Since the Steelhead don't eat after they enter fresh water, these patterns are successful because they seem to annoy the fish, triggering an attack on the fly. Choice of fly seems to be dependent in part on time of year, (Summer run or Winter run) color and area. Other ways of course include talking to other anglers, joining the local Trout Unlimited Chapter and asking the members, and making a stop in the local fly shop. If you only fish your local waters, you will get to know what flies work on each body of water, at what time of year. If you travel, carry lots of different patterns with you, or call ahead to the guide you will be using and ask what you should bring for fly patterns. What Will this Fly CatchThese Fly Patterns have been specifically designed to catch Steelhead in the rivers of the North West of the US and Canada, and in the Great Lakes. They have also been successfully used to catch Taimen Trout in Mongolia, Big Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden in Northern BC.
